1. Technology Solutions
- Spectrum developed Móbila®, which is a collection of software applications and hardware components that controls the broadcasting, scheduling and exhibition of digital content such as video, sound and animation both on a store and forward and on a multicast IPTV basis.
- Móbila® dispatches the media to one or more remote sites simultaneously through a high-speed telecommunications link (satellite), then displays the media at those sites on plasma and LED screens, touch-screen monitors or on cinema screens via state of the art digital projectors.
- Móbila® Genesis and Generator are specifically focused on our clients’ digital signage requirements and can be deployed through a wide range of channels including cinema advertising, information kiosks, shopping malls, fitness, health and leisure centres, giant screens in stadiums, theatres and nightclubs and plasma screens at locations such as airport lounges, taxi ranks and garage forecourts.
- Móbila® Genie is Spectrum’s Video on Demand (VoD) and IPTV technology solution that has been deployed in the hospitality industry and in large corporate offices.
- Spectrum custom designs and builds the hardware required to control and exhibit the digital media content, utilising OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) parts that best meet the delivery of the solution.

6. Custom Software Development
Spectrum have utilised their understanding of, and experience with, digital media to develop custom software solutions for our clients, primarily in the broadcast and media industry.
- One such example is LiveXperience™, an interactive cinema advertising platform which makes use of mobile technology in combination with the digital cinema advertising solution. LiveXperience™ allows a person to take a digital photo of themselves (or have one taken) and MMS or email this to Spectrum’s offices. Spectrum then encode and distribute this via satellite to a particular cinema for exhibition as part of the digital cinema advertising reel. The exhibited photo then wins a prize and the person is called up in the cinema to receive their prize. To date very successful campaigns have been run for, amongst others, ABSA Bank, Coca Cola and Sony Ericsson.
- Spectrum have developed an enterprise wide media management system for Ster-Kinekor which manages and automates the distribution and placement of movie posters and trailers at cinema complexes countrywide.
- Spectrum developed an entire software and hardware system for the SABC for a large interactive game show created by the BBC called “Test The Nation” A case study detailing this work for Urban Brew studios, who were commissioned by the SABC, follows below.
