Lesotho’s only stadium, Setsoto Stadium, was recently transformed into a world-class sporting venue through extensive renovations and became one of the first stadiums in the world to install the latest innovation in high quality digital screens from Daktronics, available exclusively from Spectrum in South Africa.

Spectrum recently brought world-class sports scoring technology to the only stadium in Lesotho, the Setsoto Stadium in the capital city of Maseru, as part of extensive renovations to uplift the stadium to international standards. The renovations formed part of a nationwide bid by the Government of Lesotho to improve sporting facilities throughout the country. 

Currently the home ground of the Lesotho national football team, the multi-purpose stadium has a capacity of between 20 000 to 25 000 and accommodates various sporting activities, mainly soccer and track and field events, and also houses the offices for several sporting associations in the country. The revamped stadium now includes amenities such as medical examination and doping test rooms, spacious warm-up rooms, and a lively restaurant. 

During the reconstruction of the stadium, Spectrum, South Africa’s leading digital media company and the sole distributors of Daktronic Screens in South Africa, installed two “DVX-20-198 x 342” high quality digital screens in the stadium. The DVX series is the latest digital screen innovation by Daktronics, making the Setsoto stadium one of the first projects in the world to make use of the new sports scoreboards. 

Spectators and athletes alike will now be dazzled by the superb picture quality and accuracy of the Daktronic LED (light emitting diodes) screens. Used for playback, advertising and crowd entertainment, the integrated Daktronics systems provided a seamless, vivid display of scoring, timing, statistics, public service messages, in-game promotions, graphics, animation, live video and video replays on the highest quality LED screens in up to 4.4 trillion shades of dazzling colour. 

Our team of expert field engineers - highly trained by Daktronic technicians - demonstrated their technical capabilities during the installation of the screens at the Setsoto stadium. Two 28m², 20mm pixel pitch screens, weighing 1 to 2 tons each (including the steel structures), were installed at the Setsoto Stadium by local technicians in under seven days.  

The world-class content management and control systems are conveniently located within the stadium’s central control room below one of the screens. The control systems include a DPM 7000 Software Controller, VIP 4500 Video Processor, and an All Sport 5000 Sport Control which can generate and display scores for any sport.
